First whole notes
Below are whole note exercises to introduce reading notes on the staff. Make sure you use a good sound and a full breath for each line. Take in more air when needed. Each whole note and whole rest gets four beats.

Add half notes
Now let's mix whole and half notes together! Remember, half notes and half rests get two beats each, and there are still four beats per measure.
Add quarter notes
And now, quarter notes and quarter rests, each receiving one beat. Don't forget to use your tongue to start each note with a "du."
Your first song!
The following songs all require three to five notes. Make sure you are confident with the exercises above before trying these songs. You can download the sound files to play along.

This version of Jingle Bells introduces first and second endings with repeat signs. The FIRST time through, you play the FIRST ending. When you get to the repeat sign, go back to the opposite repeat bar and keep playing. When you get to the first ending again, since it is the SECOND time playing these notes, skip to the SECOND ending.
